Extension - 05. Innocent eyes
Innocent eyes they don't understand
A gentle touch turns to a heavy hand
They trusted us with all they had
Now their world is cold and sad
A bird that used to sing so free
Now silenced by what it's come to be
A dog that waits by the empty door
For love that won't come anymore
Innocent eyes they tell no lies
What have we done who hears their cries?
They gave us love we gave them pain
Will we ever heal again?
Innocent eyes looking away
Hoping for a kinder day
In the fields the lambs run wild
But soon they lose their trust their smile
In cages where the wild ones wait
A life cut short a stolen fate
The ones we hold so close at home
Are left to suffer all alone
The love they give it has no end
But we forget they are our friends
Innocent eyes they tell no lies
What have we done who hears their cries?
They gave us love we gave them pain
Will we ever heal again?
Innocent eyes looking away
Hoping for a kinder day
Acoustic strings a violin's sigh
Echoes the pain in every goodbye
We see the hurt we hear the plea
Yet turn our backs how can this be
Innocent eyes they tell no lies
What have we done who hears their cries?
They gave us love we gave them pain
Will we ever heal again?
Innocent eyes looking away
Hoping for a kinder day
Innocent eyes they fade with time
But their silent gaze still haunts my mind
They trusted us—and we failed them. This is a song against animal cruelty, and for compassion.
