Titanic - 10. Stuck on the ladder
He started as a dreamer with big goals in sight
Climbing life's ladder he took it step by step right
But each upward move brought more weight on his back
In a game where reason often fades to black
Oh the Peter Principle holds us tight in its grasp
In the chase for success we forget how to last
Higher and higher but safety starts to bend
Stuck on the ladder where hope seems to end
The voice in his head whispers quiet doubts
Every day a battle every step a costly route
The power of illusion surrounds him like a veil
Trapped in a dream that feels destined to fail
Oh the Peter Principle holds us tight in its grasp
In the chase for success we forget how to last
Higher and higher but safety starts to bend
Stuck on the ladder where hope seems to end
And when the winds of change blow loud and clear
He starts to wonder where the joy disappeared
Could it be that falling teaches us so well
That true strength lies not in heights but in the stories we tell?
Oh the Peter Principle holds us tight in its grasp
In the chase for success we forget how to last
Higher and higher but safety starts to bend
Stuck on the ladder where hope seems to end
He looks back on the path that he has tread
With all his dreams lingering yet to be said
In the light of realization it slowly becomes clear
That living truly lies in the present right here
I wrote this to reflect on how ambition can quietly become a burden — how we chase success until we forget why we started, and how true meaning often reveals itself when we pause and look down instead of always looking up.
